Klarity
Wharfedale constantly innovates new technology for the betterment of audio immersion and enjoyment. Since 2001 Wharfedale has used Kevlar for the construction of their Diamond speaker cones, however with 12 a new proprietary composite called Klarity has been created. The base ingredient for Klarity is polypropylene, a low distortion material that has been combined with mica to increase stiffness and reduce flexing resulting in a lightning-fast response. The result is an enthralling sound with precise accuracy and bold excitement for your audio.
Bass/Mid Drivers
Meticulous research has gone into delivering prime fidelity from the bass/mid drivers in the Diamond 12 series speakers. The diaphragms are driven by a precision-made magnet system with an aluminium compensation ring that minimises distortion and intermodulation usually associated with motor systems with ultra-low damping. The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbin. This negates any eddy currents being added and assures the delivery of greater power compared to that delivered by an aluminium bobbin usually found in speakers at this price range.
Treble Unit and Crossover
Open and smooth extended high frequencies are assured thanks to the 25mm dome made from a woven polyester film with a high loss coating. Wide dispersion ensures perfect sound quality in any environment with a crossover network using an acoustic LKR 24dB topology and air-core inductors that allows seamless combination with the Klarity mid/bass drivers negating any distortion.
Cabinet Construction
The Diamond 12 series features a cabinet design that is usually reserved for speakers at a much higher price point. Wharfedale knows that sub-par design can lead to suboptimal results, no matter how good your drive system is. The rear-ported enclosure of each speaker has been designed to deliver prime sonic results with Intelligent Spot Bracing achieving an optimal reduction of cabinet resonance. The resonant properties of all materials used, including the glue, were carefully managed for natural, resonant free audio that offers full immersion.
